Khalil Rabah
Khalil Rabah was born in 1961 in Jerusalem and now lives and works in Ramallah, Palestine.
Rabah received a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Texas in 1991. On his return to Ramallah he worked as an architect and taught architecture at Birzeit University, Palestine and later taught at the Department of Fine Art at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem (1997-2000).
He now works in a variety of media, including installation, video, photography and performance and is the co-founder of the Al-Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art in Jerusalem.
Rabah’s most recent European solo shows include “United States of Palestine: London Office", at the Rose Issa project space, London (2008) and “Khalil Rabah”, Delfina Studios, London (2002).
Recent group shows include “Word into Art”, DIFC Dubai (2008) and British Museum, London (2006); “Mercury in Retrograde”, De Apple, Amsterdam (2006); “Macro al Mattatoio”, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rome (2005); “Disorientation”, Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt, Berlin (2000); “Narcisse Blessé, Autoportraits Contemporains, 1970-2000”, Passage de Retz, Paris (2000); “The Change of the Century 1899-1999”, Passage de Retz, Paris (1999); “Contemporary Palestinian Artists”, Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris (1997); and “Dialogues of Peace”, UN, Geneva, Switzerland (1995). He has also participated in Biennales in Liverpool; Sao Paolo; Sydney; Kwanju, Korea; and Istanbul.
Rabah was the artist in residence at Gastatelier, Aarau, Switzerland (1998); Ecole des Beaux Arts, Cergy Pontoise, France (1997); curator in residence, at Basis Wien, Vienna, Austria (1998) and was awarded an International Fellowship Visiting Arts/Delfina Studios (2001-2).
