Ahmed Moustafa
Master calligrapher and multi-media artist Dr Ahmed Moustafa was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1943
and lives and works in London.
He studied at the University of Alexandria, where he later taught before joining the printmaking department of the Central School of Art and Design, London in 1974, where he received his doctorate
in Arabic calligraphy and its role in the structural morphology of Islam.
He lectures extensively on the sacred geometry of Islamic art and its manifestation in Arabic script and has participated in more than 20 prestigious exhibitions, including a major solo retrospective, “Where
the Two Oceans Meet”, at the Vatican (1998). Group shows include "Re-orientations: contemporary Arab Representations", Europian Parliament, Brussles (2008); “Word Into Art: Artists Of The Modern Middle East” at the British Museum, London (2006) and “Signs, Traces and Calligraphy” at the Barbican Concourse Gallery, London (1995).
