Etel Adnan

Artist, poet and essayist Etel Adnan was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1925 and studied Philosophy at the Sorbonne in France, the University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University, Boston. She now lives and works between all three countries.

She has exhibited widely, including “The Dance of Pen and Ink” at The State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg and The State Museum of Oriental Art and Triumph Gallery, Moscow (2007-8); “Word into Art” at the British Museum, London (2006), and the touring exhibition, “Breaking the Veils: Women Artists from the Islamic World” (Greece, Spain and Italy, 2002). She is also a noted novelist – her most popular work, “Sitt Marie Rose” (1978), has been published in six languages.
