hengameh golestan

Documentary photographer Hengameh Goestan was born in 1952 in Tehran, Iran, and moved to London in 1984, where she lives and works today.

As well as pursuing her own projects, she worked with her late husband, photojournalist Kaveh Golestan on numerous photographic and documentary film assignments, including “Recording the Truth”, for Britain’s Channel 4 TV.

Her portfolio spans 30 years of documenting the post-revolutionary social history of Iran and Kurdistan, and her series “Last Day Before the Veil” (1979) is renowned worldwide. Her group shows include “Photo Quai”, Quai Branly, Paris (2009); and exhibitions at the “N” Gallery, Georgia (2005); Leighton House Museum, London (1999); Cardiff Jazz Festival, Wales (1996); and Signals Festival of Women Photographers, Dewsbury Museum, West Yorkshire (1995).
