Largely self-taught, at 16 she began working in the photo archive of the women’s daily newspaper, Zan, and later with nine reformist dailies (all since banned). She now works freelance, mainly for foreign press agencies including Reuters and AP, and assignments have taken her to Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. She is represented by the Polaris photo agency and her work has been published in Time, Newsweek, Stern, Der Spiegel, The New York Times, Colors magazine,
Le Figaro, Le Monde, and NRC Handelsblad.

Solo shows include “Iran: Women in the Axis of Evil”, which was awarded a prize by the All Roads National Geographic Society, and exhibited in Los Angeles and Washington DC (2006). Her international group shows include “30 years of Solitude” at the New Hall, Cambridge University (2007) and “Made in Tehran” at the Cicero Gallery in Berlin (2007).

She was a finalist for the Inge Morath award, from the Magnum agency (2007) and was selected for the World Press Photo Masterclass in Amsterdam (2006).
