Sabah Naim

Sabah Naim was born in 1967 in Cairo, where she lives today. She received her BFA and MFA from the College of Art Education, Cairo (1990 and 1996), and a PhD from the College of Art Education, Cairo (2003).

She has had solo exhibitions at B21 Gallery, Dubai (2008); Galleria Lia Rumma, Naples (2007, 2004); Karin Francis Gallery, Cairo (2006); Cairo Atelier, Cairo (2004, 1998); The Circus Theatre, The Hague (2001); Goethe-Institut, Cairo (2001); Gezira Arts Center, Cairo (2000); and the Townhouse Gallery, Cairo (2000, 1999).

Her numerous group exhibitions include “Word into Art”, the British Museum, London and Dubai (2006-2007); “Africa Remix”, Hayward Gallery, London, which travelled to the Johannesburg Art Gallery, South Africa, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf (2004-2007); “The Present out of Past Millennia”, Kunst Museum Bonn, Germany (2007); “Metropolitan Scape”, Paesaggi Urbani nell Arte Contemporanea Palazzo Cavour, Turin (2007); the Havana Biennial, Cuba and Venice Biennale, Italy (both 2003); Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver (2003); Lia Rumma Gallery, Naples and Milan (2002); “The Squared Circle Exhibition”, Askal Alwan, Beirut and the Townhouse Gallery, Cairo (2001); “Art and Photography”, Goethe Institute, Cairo (2001); Exhibition of the Fine Arts College, Paris (2000); “Small Works Exhibition”, Akhnaton Gallery, Cairo (2000); and “Contemporary Egyptian Women’s Art”, Gezira Art Centre, Cairo (2000).

Sabah Naim’s work is in the permanent collection of the British Museum, London; the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, Cairo and The Egyptian Ministry of Culture, Cairo. She also features in private collections in Egypt, Italy, the USA, Germany and the Netherlands.
