"faces & Voices"
THE JOHN RYLANDS LIBRARY, MANCHESTER
19 JULY - 25 NOVEMBER 2012
This exhibition aims to shed new light on these captivating collections of papyri and mummy portraits, and to reflect on the heritage of culture and beauty which they embody.
Also represented are the faces and voices of eminent Manchester citizens and philanthropists – the people behind the stories of how these fascinating objects found their way to our city.
The work of contemporary Egyptian artist Fathi Hassan, shown alongside the historic collections, offers a fresh and beautiful perspective on the issues, questions and thoughts which are opened up by these stories from the past.
Curated by Roberta Mazza.
